What was it like joining Mazars as a newcomer?

From the very beginning, I definitely felt supported and trusted by HR and my colleagues.. The first week I joined the company, I made a newcomer’s mistake and was greeted with patience, kindness and understanding. I was not familiar with the cost centres of the client’s accounts and I mixed them in the system, which then required my colleague to correct them one by one – but instead of being angry, he told me it was ok to make mistakes and that I will learn as I get more acquainted with the system.

How have your team members supported you throughout your career?

My colleagues warmly welcomed me from the start and gave me a lot of useful advice. They were all very patient and explained thoroughly every question that I had. As time went on and I began to take on more responsibility, we grew to develop a strong trust, where I was given important tasks that allowed me to grow and become independent with my own work.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt from working with others?

Working with others, I’ve learnt that open communication, where we can easily share knowledge and ideas is really important in order for a group to deliver top-tier results. In each team meeting, the managers always repeat this phrase: ‘If anyone has any thoughts about how to make the process better, please speak out, we welcome new ideas. I really feel it helps create an environment we can all learn from each other and improve our work.

What are the next steps for you?

I would like to learn more technical skills about accounting and also develop my leadership skills so that I can really thrive at the firm. The annual review can help us to understand where we stand and how we can improve on certain to develop ourselves. I find this process really helpful and believe it’s quite objective as it’s not solely based on comments from one manager but includes different points of view from the people you´ve been working with.

Do you feel you have adequate opportunities for growth at Mazars?

I think Mazars is a great place for every hard worker to shine. This is attributed to the open-minded management that I mentioned before, as well as the good communication across the Group, and the complete and objective annual reviews which make this place a perfect environment to grow and make full use of your knowledge and skills.
